Were you here for the men who’d burn the world down, or for proof that someone would do it for you and still tuck you in after?
My Prison Penpals
At its core, this one satisfies readers chasing To Be Chosen, To Be Accepted, and To Feel Safe — which tracks with its 3.5/5 overall rating.

You want protection rooted in the full truth of what happened to you. Unconditional action that doesn't ask you to minimize the harm before it arrives.
That's not just a personality quirk — it's a window into what you're actually chasing when you pick up a book like this.
Find Your Archetype →Okay, My Prison Penpals genuinely hooked me from Chapter One. It’s dark and emotionally heavy in the best way, the characters actually grow, and the slow burn is flawless, paced exactly how I like it. Wren is a sheltered women, who lost her parents early, and is raised by her brother. She is cut off from the world and has no idea how things work, and worse than that she has been lied to about how the world works. Then she accidently sends letters to three men in prison, who she thought were children. Uhh… The morally grey guys and their whole “touch her and die” thing? Obsessed. Watching Wren slowly put herself back together after everything she’d been through, with them being feral and protective the entire time, did something to me. The action scenes are wildly over the top, and somehow that made it more fun, not less. It gave the whole story this cozy, almost fantasy feel I wasn’t expecting. My one note: I wanted more spice. That’s it. That’s the complaint.
Her letters saved them. Now they’ll destroy everything to save her. Wren My brother says he only wants what’s best for me. He says the world is dangerous. That I’m safer at home. That he'll teach me everything I need to know. I believed him. Until the day I found a letter that changed everything. He had made a deal with the devil—one that traded my future for his power. So I ran. No plan. No destination. Just one final letter to the four men who had accidentally become my closest and only friends. My prison penpals. I never expected them to come looking for me. I certainly never expected them to find me. And I definitely didn't expect them to be equal parts appealing as they are terrifying. They’re dangerous, obsessive, and unapologetically mine. And when my past catches up to me, they’re the only ones willing to burn the world to keep me safe. Four men who should have been a mistake—might just be my salvation. ***The Undertakers is a trilogy, and this book ends on a cliffhanger. It's a hurt/comfort, why choose, MFMM+ romance novel with dark themes. If you like your men morally gray and over the top obsessive and possessive then read on! No mm/ff/cheating/owd. The FMC will not have to choose between her love interests. For a full list of trigger warnings please visit: ShonaKnight.com.
Content warnings✓ Being found by people who were already looking. She sends the letter, and they come.
✓ The safety of the darkness pointing outward: feral at the world, hand-fed gentle with her.
✓ Being allowed to fall apart and put herself back together at her own pace, with no one rushing her.
✓ A cozy blanket with teeth: heavy subject matter that never once stops feeling safe to read.
What lingers isn’t the danger, it’s how safe the danger felt, aimed at everyone in the world except her.
